The Burgas port transformation project in Bulgaria, co-funded by the EU's CEF Transport, highlights the port's modernization to accommodate larger cargo ships and reduce emissions. Key infrastructure updates include a new deep-water berth, upgraded rail connections, and shore-side electricity supply to cut emissions from docked vessels.

The shore-side electrification solution includes two 4,000 kVA shore power modules to serve new berths, promoting sustainable technologies such as electric cranes and shunting locomotives.
Seabridges emphasizes that behind such shore-side electrification systems, a solid microgrid is essential. This ensures energy independence, availability, and affordability, making it technically feasible and vital for long-term sustainability.
